Amateur players will have once again the chance to compete in the World Championship of Amateur Poker (WCOAP), which will begin on January 23rd with the two-day Main Event capping of the series from February 7th. It’s the first time the series, which are in their 12th year, will be held in full online due to the sanitary situation.
The series, which offer No Limit Hold’em, PLO and Seven Card Stud disciplines, are hosted by the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT). “It’s incredibly exciting to be working alongside APAT to bring our players the first fully online version of the World Championship of Amateur Poker. APAT are dedicated to the development of amateur poker players and this partnership perfectly complements our strategy of levelling the playing field and providing all players with a safe, exciting and fun environment in which to play poker”, said Partypoker Poker Room Manager Chris Donnachie.
With affordable buy-ins, no re-entries and earlier finish times, it is the perfect series for amateur players, which can enter any of the 16 multi-format bracelets events. The International Team Championship will kick off the series on the opening day, where countries will be invited to compete. Non-playing team captains will be able to select players to represent their country. The Main Event will provide the perfect conclusion to the series, taking place across the final two days of the festival. Players can buy into the Main Event for $109 and play for a share of a guaranteed $150,000 prize pool. The winner of the Main Event will become the World Amateur Poker Champion, and will also earn an Amateur National Ranking, on top of its cash prize. For the first time, there will also be a mirrored mini-series of 15 events. The Mini Main Event buy-in will be $11 with a guarantee of $20,000. The most consistent player across the series will also be rewarded, with the highest-ranked player of the WCOAP winning a Millions Online Main Event seat, also on Partypoker, worth $5,300. The Millions Online Main Event will kick off on February 21st.
